Clay Wars!!!

We started the clay unit last week.  I always begin the clay unit with an exploratory lesson that gets the students fired up with working in clay.  Clay wars is designed to have students work in teams and compete at several tasks in the clay.  The focus is: " What is happening to the clay"?  Here are some pictures of the students working.

 

Self portraits are starting to get finished!!

I feel that a majority of the students who do this project feel very good about their finished product!  The result are always impressive - Here are a few!

Monday 9/30 and Tuesday 10/1 -

Student will be taking portrait style photographs of one another during class. Their objective is to send a message about themselves to the viewer of photograph.

Startof the first Major Project!

We will be starting the first Major Project of the year today and tomorrow in class.  The first Major Project is Self Portraiture. I always start this unit with the students spending at least a half hour drawing themselves as realistically as possible.  This is often an intimidating task for students to complete.  I really  just want them to just start thinking about who they are and how you show that in a portrait.

Name Tags for Art lockers!

Each student will be assigned an art locker to share with three other students. This locker will be used to store all art related materials.  The name tag assignment is always one of the first things we do in class.  This assignment serves two purposes. 1. It gives students a name tag that identifies there locker. 2. It allows me to experience each student's artistic ability and creative thought. 
I am always amazed at the creativity of the name tags and the wide variety of interpretation of the directions.  The direction were:  The name must take up half of the tags space and be done in a creative way.  The rest of the tag must include the students class period and whatever else they would like.

Parent Signature form due!!!

A QUICK REMINDER:  YOUR PARENT SIGNATURE LETTER IS DUE BY THE END OF THIS WEEK! THIS WILL BE YOUR FIRST GRADE IN THE GRADEBOOK. PLEASE START OF THE YEAR ON A POSITIVE NOTE.

9/4/13 The start of many lasts!

I hope everyone had a great summer. I look forward to using this blog to benefit CFA students and parents. The purpose of the blog will be to keep everyone informed of what is going on in the art room. I will make every attempt to update the blog in a weekly manner. So if you are ever wondering what is going on in the art room at CFA, please check out the blog!

This will be the last first day of school for CFA. I know the thing that I will miss most about CFA is my art room. It has to be the best room in the Corning School District. The students should be excited they get to take advantage of this wonderful space. Pictures are below.
